Introduction:

Natalie Portman (born Natalie Hershlag on June 9, 1981) is an Israeli-American actress. She’s achieved a remarkable film career from her early years, starring in both blockbuster hits and independent films. Her achievements include an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards.Starting her acting journey at twelve, Portman’s breakout role was in the action movie Léon: The Professional (1994), where she played a young protégée of a hitman. She gained worldwide fame while still in high school, portraying Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). Despite attending Harvard University from 1999 to 2003 and earning a psychology degree, she remained active in acting, notably in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (2002, 2005) and The Public Theater’s 2001 revival of Anton Chekhov’s play The Seagull.

Activism:

A dedicated animal rights advocate, Portman adopted vegetarianism at the age of eight after witnessing a chicken surgery at a medical conference alongside her father. Her commitment grew, and in 2009, she transitioned to veganism after reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s book “Eating Animals.” She even produced a documentary of the same name, shedding light on U.S. factory farming practices. Her efforts earned her the Ongoing Commitment Award from the Environmental Media Association Awards in September 2017.Portman actively avoids animal products and endorses cruelty-free alternatives like Stella McCartney and Target. She took her advocacy a step further by launching her own animal-friendly footwear line in 2007. Beyond animal rights, Portman’s environmental activism started early, as she joined an eco-focused song and dance group called World Patrol Kids during her childhood. She also engaged in conservation efforts, such as traveling to Rwanda with Jack Hanna to create the documentary “Gorillas on the Brink” in 2007.
